Careers at PCC

In our rapidly growing company opportunities for development and career advancement are never far away. If you are looking for challenge, to be rewarded for your results and you thrive in a demanding environment, PCC is an unparalleled place to build your career.

Management Development Programme

What is the Programme About?

This is our flagship programme and it is designed to develop people who one day could be a senior operations leader running our manufacturing plants.

We have a different philosophy to many programmes and it is based on 6 key principles; challenging assignments, assignments must matter to the senior leaders of the plants, excellent support, a small programme to ensure there is no “getting lost in the crowd' and those on it have to be of the very highest calibre.
The 6th principle is that we will reward you well for your efforts with an exceptional bonus scheme linked to a good basic salary and a competitive benefits package.

For this programme we are looking for people who believe they have the potential to grow into a senior operations role in one of the world's fastest growing manufacturing companies. You must have a strong engineering/manufacturing degree, some experience of working in manufacturing and be able to contribute to continuing our success. Successful applicants typically have a Masters in Engineering (2.1 or better), evidence of extracurricular success in leading people, have spent at least 6 months working in manufacturing industry (probably on a placement) and are fast learners.

What Would I be Doing?

This is a 2 year programme during which you will undertake 4 assignments of 6 months each and you are expected to be mobile as the assignments could be at any of our European locations (UK, Ireland, France and Belgium).

During the first year the assignments tend to be process improvement or engineering projects that have a very real impact on the profitability of the plant where you are based. You will be held accountable for the success of your project and will report your progress to the plant leadership team on a regular basis. You can expect to be stretched and your profile will be high. You will be on the shop floor getting involved and driving change, not stuck behind a desk. MDPs have to interact and work through a wide variety of functions and other sites and will be expected to leave a lasting improvement.

At the end of the second project we will relocate you to another PCC business to broaden your experience. The third project will typically be either a more complex process improvement project or looking at scheduling / planning of production.

All this builds towards the fourth rotation which will usually be a supervisory role in operations where you will be tasked with leading your production team to achieve their goals.

As the programme ends it is not unusual for MDPs to be offered management roles.

What are the Benefits?

We believe our package is one of the best in the industry with a good basic salary, (£24,000 – £27,000 depending on qualifications and experience), an excellent bonus scheme, heavily subsidised accommodation for the first 6 months, subsidised gym membership during the programme, 25 days holiday, pension contributions and the chance to buy shares in the company at discounted rates.

Couple that with challenging work, real responsibility, high visibility to senior leaders, strong support to help you succeed and a rapidly growing company in which to grow your career and we believe this is one of the best opportunities around.

What Support is There?

We want to help you succeed, so you will be supported throughout the programme by your mentor – typically a very experienced senior leader – as well a Corporate Director specialising in Leadership Development. You will be taken through a curriculum of development covering leadership, operational finance and Lean/Six Sigma tools, to give you every chance to shine.

What are the Criteria for Entry?

At a minimum we are looking for people who can show:

  • A good quality (2.1 or better) engineering (mechanical, manufacturing, aeronautical, industrial, electrical) degree at BSc or, ideally M.Eng level. We'd also like to hear from Metallurgists with equivalent level qualifications.
  • Evidence of leadership
  • Time spent working in industry
  • A strong “can do” attitude
  • Resourcefulness
  • The ability to learn quickly
  • Resilience, the ability to cope with the pressure of a performance focused culture
  • The right to work in the UK and Europe throughout the programme

When can I Apply?
